Notes on PDF Files
PDF, or Portable Document Format, is a widely-used proprietary file format of Adobe Systems Incorporated. PDF files must be read with a program such as Adobe's free software called Acrobat Reader. Acrobat Reader is included with some Web browsers, so it may already be installed on your computer.

To load the free Acrobat Reader program onto your computer will take up about 5 megs of your computer's disk storage space. To download the program from Adobe may take 30 minutes or more, depending upon the speed of your Internet link.

If you do not already have Acrobat Reader on your computer, or if Acrobat Reader is installed on your computer but your Web browser has not been set to read PDF files with it, when you click on a PDF file selection your browser will offer you several choices, one of which is to SAVE the PDF file. If you see this prompt, GO AHEAD AND SAVE THE FILE.

Later, when you are ready to read and print the saved PDF file, do one of the following:

(1) If Acrobat Reader is already installed on your computer, run Acrobat Reader and use Acrobat Reader to open, read, and print the saved PDF file.
(2) If Acrobat Reader is not installed on your computer, go to the Adobe Systems Web site, www.adobe.com, where Adobe makes Acrobat Reader available for downloading free of charge. Follow the instructions to download Acrobat Reader. Later, run Acrobat Reader and open the saved PDF file to read and print it.

If you want to download Acrobat Reader now, clicking on the icon below will open a new window in your Web browser and take you to Adobe's Acrobat Reader download site. Remember, this is a large file. When you finish downloading, if you know how to set your Web browser preferences to point PDF files to the Acrobat Reader program you have just downloaded, do so and then click on the desired PDF link to read and print the PDF file. If you do not know how to set those browser preferences, simply click on a PDF link, choose SAVE THE FILE when prompted to do so, and later you can run Acrobat Reader and open, read and print the saved PDF file.
